The agriculture department has approved a revised budget of ₹134 crore for the integrated agriculture complex to be built at Anayara, an increase from the earlier estimate. An additional ₹20 crore will come from the World Bank-assisted Kerala Climate Resilient Agri-Value Chain Modernisation (KERA) scheme.
The complex will have an agriculture tower that will serve as a central office for the agriculture department and allied agencies, as well as an exhibition center and a food court. It will also have a Regional Agricultural Technology Training Centre (RATTC), which will be upgraded using KERA funds.
Increased cost of agriculture tower
The cost of the agriculture tower has been increased to ₹100 crore from the original ₹79.14 crore. The increase was recommended by a technical committee constituted in December 2024 and approved through an order issued by then agriculture secretary B. Ashok on August 30.
Exhibition Centre and Food Court
The estimated budget of the exhibition center and food court has also increased from the earlier ₹17 crore to ₹34 crore. This revision was necessary to include additional works such as roofing, fire safety, sewage treatment, and structural improvements suggested by IIT Madras. The rising construction cost was also taken into account.
Collaboration of RATTC and KERA
The KERA scheme has allocated ₹20 crore for the modernization of RATTC, which will operate from the Krishi Tower building without paying rent. The upgrade is expected to strengthen farmer training and knowledge-sharing.
First sanctioned in November 2023, the Anayara Agriculture Complex is designed to bring all major agriculture-related offices under one roof. The department hopes that the project will make services faster, more efficient, and more accessible to farmers.
